The Jury Committee consisting of representatives of the main branches of ÉVOSZ awarded ten Excellence Awards and two diplomas of recognition at the annual gala event of ÉVOSZ.

At the end-of-year gala event of the National Alliance of Building Contractors (ÉVOSZ), held last Friday, the winners of the Construction Industry Excellence Award and the Ödön Lechner Award for the year 2018 were announced ceremoniously. This article contains the list of the awardees, as well as a detailed photo gallery of the gala event.

In line with the traditions of the previous years, the call for the Construction Industry Excellence Award was announced by ÉVOSZ together with eight other organisations in the construction industry.

Buildings that could be nominated were those with a value of at least HUF 100 million net which received their occupancy permits by the end of the preceding year.

The main criteria of the evaluation were the following:
the general architectural-technical evaluation of the given building;
the technical-technological quality and level of workmanship involved in the execution;
the economic efficiency and operability of the project; and
the cooperation between those involved in the execution of the projects, especially the investors, designers and contractors.

The Jury Committee, consisting of delegates from the organisations announcing the call, eventually chose ten buildings for the Excellence Awards and two for the Diplomas of Recognition. There were no nominations submitted in the categories of agricultural structure, and environmental/water management structure.

This year’s Excellence Awards were handed over to the following winners by Tibor Tolnay, the chairperson of the Jury Committee:
Category of multi-unit residential building: Dóczy Park, residential building with 237 units – Debrecen
Client: DÓCZY Ingatlanfejlesztő Kft. (Debrecen)
Architectural design: BORD Építész Stúdió Kft. (Budapest)
General contractor: HUNÉP Universal Építőipari Zrt. (Debrecen)
Subcontractor: HAJDU-ALU Építőipari és Fémszerkezetgyártó Zrt. (Debrecen)
Subcontractor: MONOLIT-ÉPSZER Szolgáltató, Építőipari és Kereskedelmi Kft. (Debrecen)
Subcontractor: CSIKIZO Építőipari és Kereskedelmi Kft. (Debrecen)

For many years, there were no nominations in the category of residential buildings. This year’s winner is an eight-storey building complex consisting of three blocks, realized as the contractor’s own investment. Located in a prestigious neighbourhood of Debrecen, adjacent to the Nagyerdő (Great Forest Park), the emblematic structure boasts an extravagant facade. The number of apartments built could house the population of a smaller village, and yet the human scale has been preserved. While the blocks themselves enclose large green areas, including an inner park and playgrounds, there are also green rooftop terraces on top of the buildings. The floor plans of the apartments, equipped with state-of-the-art building technology, satisfy functional needs very well, and their final configurations were aligned with the requirements of the buyers. The level of execution is exemplary, with smooth concrete surfaces, and a good quality of materials used. The careful design and implementation jointly enhance the value of the building.
