The foundation stone of the Office Bay building has been laid in Debrecen, hundreds will work here

The foundation stone of the Office Bay Office Building has been laid, and the investment was announced at a press conference. The Xanga Group is building a 4,000-square-meter office building with an investment of two billion forints. This project will provide a facility for services relocating to the airport.

István Herdon, President and CEO of the Xanga Group, stated on-site that over the past ten years, they have step by step implemented projects related to airport services. They have provided infrastructure support not only for passenger transport but also for cargo services.

“This project is a 4,000-square-meter office building, a two-billion-forint investment, which will be completed by next spring and will provide a facility for services relocating to the airport, ensuring appropriate working conditions for hundreds of employees,” explained István Herdon.

He added that the building’s designs were created by BORD Architectural Studio, and the construction is being carried out by HUNÉP Zrt. The President and CEO of the Xanga Group emphasized that the company places great emphasis on green technologies, environmental awareness, and energy-efficient usage. Beyond applying renewable energy sources, their goal is to obtain the BREEAM certification, one of the most recognized international environmental rating systems, for the Office Bay Office Building.

Mayor László Papp mentioned that it has been almost ten years since they initiated the first negotiations to establish scheduled flights from Debrecen. In 2021, Debrecen International Airport became a key airport in the region. The past years have been characterized by dynamic and unbroken growth, for which the Xanga Group deserves significant credit. He added that the economic significance of an airport cannot be overstated; during almost every investment negotiation, a strong argument is that Debrecen has a functioning international airport with many destinations.

The mayor recalled that in 2010, the Municipality of Debrecen signed a contract with the Xanga Group, declaring the site a development area. Numerous logistics halls have been built, and related services have also emerged. The group committed to a 50,000-square-meter development and has invested 13 billion forints in development resources from both private and grant funds with the help of MFB Invest. The new building complex will host 13 companies.

“Our goal is for Debrecen to become the strongest economic center outside the capital by the end of the decade. We aim to increase our current industrial-economic performance by at least 50 percent by the early 2030s compared to the 2020 baseline,” announced László Papp.

László Pósán, Member of Parliament, approached the construction from the perspective of the residents of the southern part of the city.

“In the 1990s, the residents here felt they were living in a remote part of the city. The city administration later decided to renovate the residential buildings and transform the airport into a functioning unit. These decisions also inspired economic players, such as the Xanga Group, and the people of Debrecen to see the long-term potential in the southern part of the city. These are mutually reinforcing processes,” the representative pointed out.
