A four-star business hotel is being constructed in downtown Debrecen by Bajcsy Invest Kft., a project company of the Szinorg Group. In this project, Hunép Zrt. is participating as a subcontractor to Hajdu-Alu for the structural construction. The foundation stone of the new hotel on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street was laid in June, and according to plans, the hotel will open its doors next summer as the first hotel in the city to operate under a major international brand.
On Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street, a total of 155 rooms and apartments will be created on the four residential levels above the entrance level. The hotel will feature a 120-seat restaurant and a 120-seat conference room, and guests will be able to park their cars in the underground garage.
On October 5, Gyula Szűcs, CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt., announced that the foundation stone was laid 106 days ago, and now the building has reached its highest point. A topping-out ceremony was held to mark the occasion. Gyula Szűcs mentioned that more time will be needed from this point until the next ceremony compared to the time from the foundation stone laying to the topping-out. He stated that in the second half of July, they plan to open the first Debrecen hotel operating under the international Mercure brand with a grand event.

Péter Horváth, CEO of Kisfaludy2030 Tourism Development Nonprofit Zrt., mentioned that 40 accommodations were granted non-refundable support in the high-capacity grant scheme. He emphasized that none of the projects, apart from the Debrecen hotel, have completed their development and construction commitments so quickly. He highlighted that under the Kisfaludy program, 147 projects in Debrecen have received approximately 19.2 billion forints in support, while 1150 applications were won in the county. Including European Union funds, nearly 37 billion forints in non-refundable support have arrived or will arrive in the region.
Mayor László Papp said that Debrecen is facing a strong autumn in terms of tourism.
“The city’s economy is experiencing a period where every sector is growing, developing, and generating new jobs. Tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors of Debrecen’s economy,” said the mayor. He added that in the case of the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street establishment, it is a business hotel, not a wellness hotel.
